SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and execute various tasks through a command line. The protocol is used by many knowledgeable users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access may be used for a number of things depending on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for just about anything - you can install software or restart particular services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that permit you to employ the protocol if your computer system is working with a different OS too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though lots of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting

SSH access is featured with all cloud web hosting plans which we provide. With some of them, it's offered by default, while with others it is an optional upgrade that you can add with a couple of clicks in your web hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section related to it where you will also find the information which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password that you'll use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All the commands that may be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to obtain SSH access to it with just a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your plan does not support this function by default, you will be able to add it with ease using the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you shall find the details which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A detailed list of the commands which you can execute will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

The VPS server packages which we offer include SSH access by default, not as an optional upgrade or a feature that you have to activate. The minute your new server is ready, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your content through the login details which you have entered during the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail as well. Since your VPS shall be isolated from the others on the physical web server, there aren't any limitations regarding what you can or can't do through SSH. You may download, set up and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the whole server or only a particular software component, and work with files, folders and databases without any restrictions. All you'll need for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
